Miss Elly Mint returned to last Saturday 14th February following her Australian record breaking 16th consecutive TAB tracks win there the previous Saturday.

To recognise this outstanding achievement the named race 6 on the Wentworth Park program last Saturday, in honour of Miss Elly Mint and prior to the race made a special presentation to the connections.

Miss Elly Mint (1/2 favourite) out of box 4 in this race was expected to win but on a cold and wet night she “stumbled” out of the boxes and was crossed early by outsider and race winner , eventually finishing fourth beaten by just over 2 ½ lengths.

Miss Elly Mint was later found to have suffered a shoulder muscle injury as the result of her ungainly starts, an injury which only will just see her back racing time for the Golden Easter Egg.

The special presentation to honour Miss Elly Mint's Australian record was made by GBOTA Director to owner Ray Watson and trainer Robert Smith. During the previous week, GBOTA Chairman Bill Mangafas, in announcing the special presentation applauded Miss Elly Mint's remarkable record, making the following observations.

“She has now won 12 races at Wentworth Park from 20 starts, with a career record of 38 wins from 58 starts. In addition her win on Saturday (February 7) broke the record for consecutive wins on the Wentworth Park track since it was converted to loam – 7 consecutive wins stood to the credit of Gallant Ruler, Foreign Legion and the mighty before Miss Elly Mint's latest win took her tally to eight on end there.

“Miss Elly Mint's record is a testament to the skills and efforts of trainer Robert Smith who has kept his outstanding sprinter racing and winning in top company including races for a significant period.” Mangafas added.

“She is an outstanding performer and remains a great favourite with the public. She will be a major draw card for the Association's flagship event, the Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park in late March and early April, where she will be chasing the $150,000 winner's purse on offer”
