MPs who crossed the floor removed as Parliamentary secretaries

MPs Katrina Hodgkinson and Chris Gulaptis have been removed from their positions as parliamentary secretaries of southern and Northern New South Wales.

The news comes just days after Hodgkinson and Gulaptis made the decision to cross the floor in an attempt to block the government's proposed ban on greyhound racing alongside another Nationals MP, Kevin Humphries.

They are being replaced by Adam Marshall and Bronnie Taylor, both of whom voted in support of the ban, with the passing through the NSW Lower House in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“Both Adam and Bronnie will bring a renewed focus on regional NSW, ensuring the communities of northern and southern NSW have a strong voice in government,” said Troy Grant, Deputy Premier and leader of the NSW Nationals Party.

“Adam and Bronnie both have a of delivering for their communities and I know they will kick goals in their new roles.

“I thank outgoing Parliamentary Secretaries Katrina Hodgkinson and Chris Gulaptis for their service in their roles and look forward to speaking to them both about other opportunities to best serve their communities into the future.”

The news that Gulaptis and Hodgkinson have been as Parliamentary secretaries comes despite Grant having praised both MPs for standing up for their constituents over the .

“There is no resentment against them for doing that. I'm actually proud of them for doing that, it is not an easy thing,” Grant had said.

Gulaptis told APN's Daily Examiner on that he would not change his actions to cross the floor if he could go back.

“I'd over and over again if I was in the same situation,” Gulaptis said.

“This was not about me – it was about people in the greyhound racing industry losing their livelihoods, their sport and the dogs they love.

“This was a real core community issue.”

Both Marshall and Taylor are expected to receive a $30,000 pay rise in their new roles.

Mike Baird 9 July · .. The decision to ban greyhound racing has obviously generateda lot of discussion and questions. And I’ve been listening. I’ve read many ofthe 10,000+ Facebook comments and other coverage in the media and I’d like totake a minute to respond to some of the questions. I particularly want toaddress some of the myths around this decision. So, here are the top 10 things that just aren’t true aboutthe shut down of greyhound racing on 1 July next year. This has been a toughdecision, but a considered one. 1. You are punishing many for the crimes… Read more »

6. This Government just wants to ban everything. I’m a big advocate of small government that keeps out of your way. But that doesn’t mean government stands back and allows cruelty to animals on a widespread scale. I understand why some people feel like they are being over-governed when we introduce more laws – particularly if it is a law you don’t like. Creating extra restrictions brings me no joy. But neither does the death of thousands of dogs a year. My instinct on this, before the Inquiry’s report was handed down, was that we would find a way to… Read more »

Live Baiting charges withdrawn. All charges againstVictorian trainer Brett Mackie were withdrawn yesterday in an embarrassingbackdown by the RSPCA.  The withdrawal ofthese charges is concrete proof that Mr. Mackie did not engage in live baiting.  Mr. Mackie is owed anapology from the RSPCA and a withdrawal of action taken by GRV stewards as aresult of false and misleading information provided by the RSPCA. It was abundantly clear that Mr. Mackie had proof that hehad paid for all trials at Tooradin by electronic transfer and that no liveanimals were ordered or paid for.  The RSPCA and GRVfailed to consider the evidence… Read more »

dogem53  It is interesting that the  poll also claims that the greyhound ban was supported yet this sudden drop in popularity is immediately after the ban and Luke Foley is suddenly more popular after vigorously supporting the greyhound world.

Unbelievable decision and one that’s surely to bring him heaps of criticism.  Hodgkinson and Gulaptis demoted for actually standing up for the constituents who elected them as their Parliamentary representatives..  Others who opposed the ban but didn’t have the balls to cross the floor as they did had a gun held to their heads by the Education Minister, Adrian Piccoli, who threatened to withhold funding for their Electorates.   I ask you!  Is this Democracy?  Baird and Grant have lost the plot and are being vindictive not only towards members of the Greyhound Industry, but also their own Politicians who… Read more »

dogem53 Deborah555 BobWhitelaw  The political journalists have listed all the reasons they thought they lost and leasing the port of Darwin for 99 years to the Chinese and upsetting the Americans and selling other state owned assets  was a big part of their downfall. Baird is doing exactly the same thing he has leased the Port of Newcastle for 99 years to foreign investors, was about to sell the Ausgrid to a Chinese investor and he has already sold of most of the electricity generating assets. I was pointing out that there are more  parallels than just disunity.
