Mt Gambier Greyhounds To Race On Fridays

The Board of Greyhound Racing SA has approved a temporary trial of monthly TAB racing at Mount Gambier in the timeslot, with the first meeting scheduled for conduct on May 11.

The trial of racing at Mount Gambier will provide that region with an opportunity to demonstrate its potential to play a more significant role in the weekly racing schedule and effectively serve to expand the pool of greyhounds which routinely supports racing in this state.

The Board is conscious of the growing need to balance regional supply issues with its ability to maximise industry returns from the weekly schedule of Sky meetings. More frequent racing at Mount Gambier has positive implications for our broader capacity to reduce nomination pressure in the inner regions, increase turnover by meeting, and potentially reduce existing operational costs.

The remaining dates for the trial will be released imminently, including provision for one of the Mount Gambier meetings coinciding with the compulsory break in racing at that is triggered by the scheduling of the Gawler Show.

The meetings will be conducted at equivalent stakemoney to Gawler's current Friday meetings and will open to all grades and distances.
