Ned Snow Fined $1500 For Naproxen Positive Swab

(RQ) today conducted an into the analyst's in respect of a urine sample taken from the registered greyhound Willy Be Topps, which placed second in Race 3 at on 14 August 2014.

After taking evidence from the trainer of Willy Br Topps, Mr Ned Snow, Stewards issued a charge against Mr Snow pursuant to Rule (GAR) 83 (2)(a) to which he pleaded guilty.

GAR 83 (2)(a) reads:

The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound nominated to compete in an event shall present the greyhound free of a prohibited substance.

The specifics of the charge being that on 14 August 2014, Ned Snow, as the licensed trainer of the registered greyhound Willy Be Tops, did present that greyhound to compete in Race 3 at Albion Park, when a urine sample taken from the greyhound following the event, was found, upon analysis, to contain the prohibited substance Naproxen.

After considering all available evidence Stewards accepted Mr Snow's guilty plea.

In assessing penalty, Stewards took into consideration the following points:

· Mr Snow's contribution to the industry spanning over 40 years
· Previous penalties in respect to similar substances
· Mr Snow's personal circumstances

Subsequently Mr Snow was fined the sum of $1500.

Acting under the provisions of GAR 83 (4) WILLY BE TOPPS was disqualified from its 2nd placing in Race 3 at Albion Park on 14 August 2014.

The placings from the 520m grade 5 held on 14 August 2014 were amended accordingly.

Mr Snow was directed to return all prize money received from the aforementioned event to Racing Queensland.

Mr Snow was advised of his appeal rights.

Naproxen is a drug that can be very toxic for dogs and should only be used with veterinary approval.
