Neds launches Friday Night Lightning Series at Wentworth Park
ONLINE bookmaker Neds has announced a new racing program at Sydney's Wentworth Park aimed at bringing people back to the track.
Neds new racing series, starting on March 15, will focus on the “Big Dash of the Dogs”, which are billed as exciting, competitive events over the 280m sprint distance.
The event is targeting those who live by the mantra “a fast race is a good race”.
Each 280m sprint in Neds Friday Night Lights will be run and won in around 16 seconds with the entire card completed in under three hours.
Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has also come to the party, offering $10,000 in incentives to trainers across the series.
Each Friday evening, points will be awarded in every 280m race held. The winner will bank eight points with the accumulated points descending all the way down to a single point for the last dog across the line in an eight dog field.
At the completion of the series, the leading three trainers will share the $10,000 in prizemoney -$7,000 to the leading trainer, $2,000 to second place and $1,000 to third.
GRNSW Chief Executive Tony Mestrov said Neds' new initiative will focus on the younger demographic of punters.
“It's a brand new exciting concept: 10 races, in less than three hours, a focus on the 280m sprint events, with a lot of fun, music, and plenty of off course activities, with the idea of bringing a new crowd to greyhound racing on a Friday night,” he said.
“The figures show that the 18-35 year olds are embracing our sport, and this is a good opportunity for them to come out, have a look, and make a night out of it.”
Neds Friday Night Lightning Series 01 will be held at Wentworth Park on March 15, March 22, March 29, April 5 and April 12.
