Next Top Model Named May Greyhound Of The Month
AGRA's Greyhound of the Month for May 2010 is consistent Victoria stayer Next Top Model. In May the Jason Thompson trained stayer scored a very courageous win in the final of the Group 1 Sandown Cup.
Her Greyhound of the Month award is well disserved after her consistent form at the top level has seen her make no less than 11 group race finals. It was her second start in a Sandown Cup she made the 2009 final at only her ninth race start finishing unplaced behind Mantra Lad.
After an impressive heat win on May 6th when she downed Reign Over Me in 42.28 she wasn't all that well fancied in the final starting an $8 quote.
However, trained by leading Pearcedale mentor Jason Thompson, Next Top Model began well to lead Darren McDonald's Reign Over Me into the home straight the first time. Reign Over Me soon switched to the rails to take the lead as the pair broke away from the chasing pack.
In an epic finish to Australia's richest race for stayers, Next Top Model and Reign Over Me raced neck and neck down the home straight, with Next Top Model getting the dive in on the line to defeat Reign Over Me by a head.
Next Top Model is raced by the John McGeary she is a Brindle Bitch whelped July 2007 by Surf Lorian from By Request (Lindale Blue x Roshana Reason). Next Top Model has won 19 of her 42 starts and has been placed on 13 occasions and her current stake earnings stand at $206,390.
May was again a fairly quite month for group races with only seven decided. Next Top Model beat other Group 2 winners Cosmic Chief, Nova Surf, Cindeen Shelby and Hooky Booky for the monthly award.
