After the dogs passed the post the first time, race favourite Buckle Up Wes (1) looked the goods as he held the rails advantage over Magic Display (5). Tonk made the most of this opportunity to dive into the gap that was created along the rail and zoom to the lead.

Buckle Up Wes checked off the back of Magic Display and fell back into fifth position. Down the back straight, the trained Hawk Alone (8) who showed pace from box eight, worked his way around the outside of the field to take up second position. Warrior King (4) showed great tenacity to hunt along the rails and work himself into third. After that, the placegetters positions didn't change, with two and a quarter lengths separating Hawk Alone and Warrior King for second and third. Buckle Up Wes battled on gamely for fourth.

Of the others, Ollie Bale (3) got jammed early and was dragged down before the post the first time and then got checked to a clear last around the turn and that's where he stayed. Evil Punk (6) checked off Warrior King in the early stages and wasn't able to lead, finishing fifth. He was also forced wide around the turn.
