This sponsored post was met with distaste. Hope this sport dies out quickly. So much animal suffering is caused to man’s best friend .

Gayle Lorraine and would you suggest all dogs that are pets “die out” as there is indescribable cruelty with the average family pet..Don’t judge an entire industry by a handful..

And if you look at the winner, Fernando Bale from last night, you can see him draped in a 2014 winners coat. LOL. More incompetence from greyhound officials.

Thousands of greyhounds die annually as ‘wastage’ all because of a gambling industry. You can’t justify animal exploitation on this basis. And to say there is ‘indescribable cruelty with the average family pet’ is quite an extraordinary comment. Our society would be utterly falling apart if this was true.

Spoken with all the class and reflective thought of a greyhound racing enthusiast. I didn’t ask to see the sponsored post which came up and I have a right to comment in a democracy. Happy Easter to you, Amanda.

I agree Gayle this sport is open only to cruelty for Dogs and other creatures it is a cruel sport for monetary gain only and should be banned which I hope is in the near future.

Over breeding is common in most dog breeds, so realistically there is high wastage in the general population, not just the greyhound industry. By the lack of statistical information you use Gayle im as correct as you. Happy Easter.

I care what Gayle thinks and fortunately for the greyhounds so do many other people. It has had a horrible reputation for years with its exploitation and cruel treatment of a gentle natured breed of dog. And yes cruelty is not only in the racing industry.

You pair of fools won’t ever see the banning of Greyhound racing in you’re pitiful life times, not even if you live until you are 100 years old so piss off back to your own pathetic pages because no one here is interested what you fools have to say.

Rod, Michael Byrne QC, Chairman Of Qld Greyhound Racing, warned trainers last week that greyhound racing was “near death.’’ A ban is being called for by many people in the community. The industry can’t take too many more knocks before it’s gone. Anyway, enough of your charm. ;) http://www.pressdisplay.com/pressdisplay/viewer.aspx

Janelle, I have made my mind up that’s for sure. I’ve also thought about this issue deeply after witnessing healthy young greyhounds surrendered by a trainer to a vet for terminal bloodbanking. We don’t need this industry. It makes society worse not better in my opinion, and life will go on if it’s banned.

Gayle my husband and I are in both the horse racing and greyhound industries. ..we have seen all sides of it ….we know how we treat our darling animals..both our families are steeped deep in both industries also going way back…we have family in tge veterinary arena ….that’s why I know what goes on with family pets also…but I really do hear your voice….I respect your opinion…but….we’re not all like it

Some of us are actively campaigning against greyhound racing’s biggest sponsors to stop their sponsorship. We’ve seen many sponsors drop off already, and as more and more pressure builds, others will follow. Which sponsor wants the hassle of being associated with whats now a ‘dirty’ industry when it has so many other avenues in terms of sponsorship. Lets see how many of you greyhound trainers and owners really love your dogs with no money swishing around … then you’ll show your true colours as you abandon the ‘sport’.

It will never happen, we put to much money into the economy, who is going to top up the billions of dollars that stopping greyhound racing reduces the government coffers by, I am sure & certain you lot won’t ! Dream on.

Its a myth that their is billions being put in by greyhound racing. Even with the ‘millions’ that we are actually talking about, people will simply bet on something else. They arent just going to go ‘Oh no dogs anymore …. well guess my Super Fund is going to get a top up every week.’ Also don’t forget how amateurish GRNSW are. Look at Fernando Bale in the Golden Easter Egg. Notice something wrong with the winners rug? It has 2014 written across it. And the reason because this years rug had Macro Meats on it who are no longer… Read more »

Fernando Bale in the 8 rug leaves the machines flying & goes straight to the front & remains there until the finish to take out the coveted $250000 Golden Easter Egg final at Wentworth Park last night, just one of the many high lights in Greyhound racing & will be for many years to come despite what the zealots think, the dreamers.

Look gayle I understand what you are saying, but do you not watch TV and see all those starving kids, homeless people and all these children in our own back yards getting raped and molestered, and do you honestly think that greyhounds are in this same class as this? look I don’t know what you are trying to achieve here by getting on here and saying all this, but if you really want to do good for the country or other countries, WHY don’t you do things for what I have just talked about. And yes I do believe that there… Read more »

Keith, lots of other wrongs in the world don’t justify the wrongs in the greyhound industry. Many people work for the betterment of human problems and they have my utter respect. But I’ve always been drawn to animal issues and because of what I’ve witnessed and what I’ve learnt over the past 3 or 4 years re greyhounds, I do think it’s important to try and make a better world for them. It’s achievable.

Gayle I totally know where you are coming from….I have an ex-racehorse in back yard….another washed up has been. This sort of “sport” won’t stop until people stop betting on animals…. they should bet on people sports…football, tennis etc. Until money is taking out of animal sport no good can ever come of it. I am not saying don’t bet…just don’t bet on animals

Gayle Lorraine

Wholeheartedly agree, Julia. Take the animals out of the mix and there’ll still be plenty to bet on for those inclined. I remember many years ago watching a doco on tv which charted the downfall of an unsuccessful racehorse born into the Queen’s stables no less, but it was sold on downwards many times, ultimately ending with it being killed at a Belgian knackery.

This industry is vile. As long as MONEY is the driving force, the welfare of the animals will not be the priority. Time and time again we are shown just how low people will go to make money and unfortunately for the ‘Good’ owners, society owes it to these dogs to assume their welfare is at stake. It is the least we can do.

Gayle Lorraine

The majority of average family pets are obese and rarely leave their backyards for adequate exercise.. to me this is cruelty and disgraceful. There’s dodgy greyhound people but also plenty who treat their dogs like royalty.. it won’t be banned.. just needs better regulating.. Imo any dog ownership needs better regulating
