2015 Golden Easter Egg: Rolling coverage from Wentworth Park

10:15PM AEDT: Fernando Bale has become just the second greyhound to win the Derby – Golden Easter Egg double after a terrific victory in the Group 1 feature tonight at . The son of Kelsos Fusileer and Chloe Allen exploded from box eight, crossing the high class field to lead easily around the first turn. Dawkins Bale (box one) got a beautiful sit behind the leader, but was unable to reel him in with Fernando Bale scoring in a flying 29.48 on a rain affected track. Fernando Bale has now won his last five starts and 13 from 18 overall with just under $400,000 in prize money earnings. Trained by , the white and dark brindle speedster has given his leviathan owner-breeder Paul Wheeler his third Easter Egg victory in the past five years after scoring with Radley Bale and Grigorieva Bale in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Wheeler collected the trifecta in the $250,000-to-the-winner race with Dawkins Bale finishing second and Dyna Nico running third.

9:00PM AEDT: Punters were on the money in the Group 1 final, with Space Star (box two) scoring a gallant win over the 720-metre trip. Lady Toy (box one) began well and set a cracking pace up front, with the son of Bekim Bale and able to get a sit on the leader in the run to the line on the first occasion. The big black speed machine started grinding away to close the gap, reaching the frontrunner in the home straight and storming past to record his third Group 1 victory. Space Star has now won 22 of his 34 starts with over $400,000 in prize money earnings.

8:30PM AEDT: Christine Proctor has won the Group 3 New Sensation with the talented Lord Gee defeating Aphorism in around 30.10. Beginning fairly from box four, Lord Gee was able to avoid trouble on the first turn by railing through to . Favourite No Donuts was never in contention after finding trouble in the early stages. Lord Gee has now won eight races from just 17 career starts.

8:25PM AEDT: Twenty minutes until the Group 1 Association Cup and the favourite remains dual Group 1 winner Space Star for Rob Britton. ARG has a full preview of the final, with William Hill offering our readers up to $700 in bonus bets to place on the final.

8:15PM AEDT: Lamia Bale has recorded the third group victory of her career, taking out the Group 3 over local stars Spacecraft (box four) and Zipping Abby (box one). Lamia Bale jumped well from box two and was able to hold the lead racing through the first turn. The daughter of High Earner and Maple Bale clocked 29.90 in winning her 14th race. Her sister Dyna Nico, currently $9 with William Hill, will jump from box five in the Golden Easter Egg last tonight.

7:50PM AEDT: Black Bear Lee (box five) has taken out the Group 3 in what was an action-packed final. Favourite Kihael Kaluna dwelt at the start from box six and Black Bear Lee was able to push through on the first turn and shoot clear. The son of and Paua Of Love was never in danger once out in front and on the bunny. The Ruth Matic-trained chaser defeated Zipping Meg (box three) and Down Every Road (box seven).

7:35PM AEDT: Flash Earner has won the Ultra Sense final at Wentworth Park after exploding out of box seven to find the front around the first turn. The daughter of High Earner and Silver Shiraz was never headed, defeating favourite Rare Pearl and and Father Skeeta in 29.91. Shayne Fleming's bitch scored at $8.80, bringing up her seventh career win at start 22.

7:15PM AEDT: Steve White's Rare Pearl is the $2.75 favourite with William Hill for the second race at Wentworth Park, having won its last two starts at headquarters.

7:05PM AEDT: Chasing The Line causes a boil over in the first race on Golden Easter Egg night at Wentworth Park, scoring a tremendous win at odds of $18. The son of Cosmic Rumble and Lily Appeal clocked a fast 29.88 from box six, giving first-time trainer Loren Harborne a win on the biggest night on the NSW greyhound racing calendar.

6:30PM AEDT: Half an hour until the first race on Golden Easter Egg night and Are Jip is the current $2.50 favourite from box four for William Hill. The son of Fabregas is first up since scoring in a blistering 29.55 at Wentworth Park in February.

3:00PM AEDT: THE biggest night of racing in NSW is finally here with the running of the 2015 Group 1 Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park. Despite wet conditions in Sydney, greyhound enthusiasts can still expect a terrific night of racing in the Harbour City with two Group 1s, three Group 3s and one Listed event set to take centre stage.

What are we going to do about the 15,000 to 20,000 greyhounds executed each year? Are ‘we’ planning to address that anytime soon? Thought not ….
