Another Positive Swab In NSW

today finalised an into the positive finding of in the urine sample taken from at on the 10th September, 2008.

The inquiry opened on the 13th November, 2008 where evidence was taken from Mr. the registered Trainer of Uno Ian and Mrs. L. Jones the registered Owner of Uno Ian.

Mr. Jones advised the Inquiry that he had administered Feldene disposable tablets in the food of a greyhound kennelled next to Uno Ian and stated that Uno Ian had broken into the treated greyhound's kennel at some stage prior to the 10th September, 2008 and eaten the leftover food, but he was uncertain when this incident occurred.

Mr. Jones pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 83(2)(a) which provides:-

  • R83 Racing greyhound to be drug free
  • (2) The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound-
  • (a) nominated to compete in an Event;
  • shall present the greyhound free of any drug.

The particulars of the charge being that Mr Jones did on 10th September, 2008 present the greyhound
Uno Ian for an event being Race 2 at Bulli other than free of prohibited drugs in that the race day urine sample taken from the said greyhound has returned on confirmatory analysis positive to Pirixicam (Rule 83(2)(a) of Greyhound Racing).

After consideration on the matter of penalty Mr. Jones was disqualified for a period of three(3) months from 13th November, 2008.

The following factors carried weight in the Stewards' decision : that any penalty imposed must act as a deterrent, that Mr Jones pleaded guilty, Mr Jones 40 years as a trainer, and Mr Jones good record during that time.

Additionally Uno Ian was disqualified from its 1st placing in Race (2) at Bulli and Sacheen's Wish was made the eventual wiiner.
