Azure Allegro Sets New Time Standard At Casino
Promising puppy Azure Allegro smashed the Casino 484 metre track record when she won the GRNSW Blue Paws Final at Casino on Friday.
A winner at her last five starts, and the fastest qualifier for the race, she began like a bullet from box three and ran her rivals “off their legs”. When the judge called a halt there was a ten length winning margin semaphored, with the time showing at 27.02.
This took 6 100th's off track specialist Beaver Fever's time standard. Trainer Neville Robson has always had handy greyhounds in his kennel, and Azure Allegro is no exception with her strong record of eight wins from 16 starts.
Just to show the track was “on fire,” Darryl Schafer's Within Site equalled the sprint record when she ran 22.76 in a heat of the Ainsworth Game Technology trophy. She went straight to the lead and never left the issue in doubt with a 4 1/2 length victory. At her last start at Casino she ran 22.80, so her supporters would have been very happy with the odds of over 3/1. It was the first leg of a winning double for Darryl, as stayer Brooke Trick won the Casino RSM Club stake in similar fashion. She was challenged by the favourite Ultra Rumble in the run to the wire, but she held on well to win by 3/4 length.
In other heats of the trophy Spin Me Round got to the lead down the back before recording 23.15 for Peter Simpson; Night Voyage snuck along the fence to clock 23.60 for Trevor Salmoni, and Bouncy got home nicely to run 23.24 for Dean Turley.This week's final is worth $2000 to the winner.
It's been quite a while since Merv Greber has been in the winner's circle, but he was celebrating after the win of Fairly Tall in the Richmond Valley Pet Supplies stake. After leading early, she was headed by Annie Marie going down the back, and the pair staged a great ‘two dog war” until the completion of the event. On the post Fairly Tall poked out her nose, and got the verdict by that margin. She ran 28.07 in recording her second career win.
Patience was rewarded when Roseberry Rush finally broke through at her thirty fourth start in the Mc Donald's Pharmacy maiden. Connections were pretty keen about her chances, and had reason to be very confident when she led at the first bend. Going right on with the job, she won by 3 1/4 lengths and cloked 28.18.
Jason Fredericks is having a good run at present and it continued when Crown Town took out the 411 metre maiden in 23.33, whilst later, Eighteen Months recorded his first top grade victory by leading all of the way in the Ranvet Free For All. He ran 23.01 for Bob and Kerrie Merillo.
Sprightly Babe came from last early to win the Westlawn Finace distance stake in 35.77 for Jim Madigan, and Mystical Mandy led all of the way in the Charcoal Inn stake running 27.41 for Des Gilroy.
Casino will be racing again this Friday afternoon with another action packed card.
