Azzopardi Looks To Make It Third Time Lucky In Paws Of Thunder Final

Londonderry trainer Anthony will be looking to make his third successive Final (520m) the one to remember, after Fancy Will drew box one for the $100,000 event earlier tonight (September 24).

Azzopardi who had Excel Like Time and Smooth Fancy qualify for the Group 1 event in 2009 and 2010 respectively, was pleased to have come up with the red alley for next Saturday‟s (October 1) Final.

“He needs the inside to be any type of chance in this race, so I am happy to have come up with the red,” Azzopardi said following the box draw.

Fancy Will finished second behind Allen Harper in the first on tonight‟s Greyhound Recorder Paws of Thunder semi-finals, putting the challenge to the Peter Mosman winner in the back straight.

“I am very proud of the dog‟s run tonight, these wet condition don‟t suit him because he is a pace dog, but hey he is in the final so I just hope it‟s third time lucky,” Azzopardi said.
Fancy Will will look to get an early break on final heavy weights Fancy Dean (box 6) and Allen Harper (box 8).

Littermate to Azzopardi‟s charger, Fancy Dean is expected to be well supported in the Final market after posting the fastest semi-final win of 29.99 (from box 3), despite drawing awkwardly in the six box.

“He is a bloody good dog, I wish I had another dozen just like him,” trainer Walter Lutiger said following the semi-final win.

Fancy Dean lines up in his first Group 1 event, with already four placings in his previous Group Final appearances, undoubtingly pleasing to which include Socceroo, Tim Cahill.

The Greyhound Recorder Paws of Thunder Final will be supported by the running of the „Collerson‟, a $10,000 to the winner Paws of Thunder consolation, run in recognition of journalist Jeff Collerson‟s contribution to the greyhound industry.

Saturday‟s finalists will be lead out by 2010 Paws of Thunder winner Lochinvar Marlow, with the connections of the greyhound also putting up a stud service for the winner of the Lochinvar Marlow at Stud stake.

Off the track race goers have the opportunity to with a $1,000 Good Guy gift voucher as part of the James Boag purchase promotion, Alisha Sloan will be performing live, James Boag‟s promotional staff will be on site handing out torches to selected patrons as well as a Gala Dinner in the Level 1 Function Centre.
