Braddon Looking For Luck To Beat Rockstar Image In Orange Cup

The old adage says: “you've got to be in it to win it”. And the underrated Janderra's Mate certainly will be in with a chance when the pups spear out of the boxes for the $5,000-to-the-winner final at 's Kennerson Park tomorrow night.

One of three dogs to line up for the feature event, Janderra's Mate impressed in qualifying with a gutsy heat win from Rod McDonald's Dana Beatrice.

Trainers Paul and admit their chaser is not the fastest in field.

That honour probably belongs to or Dana Beatrice.

But their years of greyhound training tell them they are in with a chance.

“You don't have to be the quickest dog to win these races, you just need to have a bit of luck,” Pam said.

He is by no means the fastest dog in the field.

Doesn't boast the best record.

Nor have been blessed with the best draw.

But he certainly can lay claim to being the most honest.

Faced with all-star cast for the $5,000-to-the-winner Cup final at Bathurst's Kennerson Park tomorrow night, the Paul and Pamela Braddon-trained Janderra's Mate will be hoping for a slice of luck when the lids are lifted for the feature event.

“He just does the best he can, he's an honest little dog,” Pam said. “You don't have to be the quickest dog to win these races, you just need to have a bit of luck.

“And he wasn't the fastest dog in those heats.

“It'll come down to whatever gets around the bend.”

The effort of Janderra's Mate to qualify for the final somewhat erased the disappointment of , who was skittled in his heat last Saturday.

But it will still be a star-studded field who will be led to the boxes, despite the failure of to progress through qualifying.

Janderra's Mate has drawn the three alley, with plenty of speed outside of him.

Rod McDonald's fancied duo of Dana Tiger (box four) and Dana Beatrice (box eight) will be hoping to cross early, while boom pup Rockstar Image (box six) and (box seven) will also jump from out wide.

The form guide suggests a thrilling final is in store.

Rockstar Image won 14 out of 16 races at one stage of its career, Dana Beatrice currently boasts a rate over 50 per cent and Beverage has five successes from just seven starts on the Bathurst loam.

But try telling the gutsy Janderra's Mate, winner in three of his last four starts, and a surprise all-the-way heat winner over Dana Beatrice.

“I thought she (Dana Beatrice) would run him down for sure, but he just got home,” Pam Braddon said of the striking fawn and white chaser.

“You're in there with a chance in these races.”

And what about his record at Bathurst?

“He likes Bathurst,” Paul said. “Bathurst is probably his favourite track, he just needs to draw on the inside.”

Five wins at Kennerson Park and a three alley will suit him.

It would be a brave person to wipe him from calculations.
