Bralyn Midge, a litter brother to “boom” puppy Bralyn County, etched his own way into the history pages, when he recorded a new track sprint track record at Casino last Friday. It was a great training performance by Brad and Lynne Northfield to bring the youngster back to 411 metres, after he had last contested a gruelling three week maiden series at the Gardens over the 520 metres.
Beginning beautifully from box seven, he soon gathered in the leaders at the first turn and kicked away. Showing all of his strength, he motored home to score by 8 1/4 lengths in 22.68, a time that bettered the old standard of 22.72, held by smart sprinter Surin’ Sal. She made the form look good later when she won the Free For All in a smart 22.82.
Bralyn Midge He will be involved in this week’s Blue Paws final against some experienced rivals who also put in some good preformances to score. The Shane Staples trained Bit Bonkers ran the next best time of 23 seconds even when she overcame box five to win by 5 1/2 lengths, while Kingsbrae Dust hugged the rail all of the way to win in 23.48 for Charlie Northfield. The other heat winner was Esposito who was having his first look at the track. She ran 23.34 for John Pay.
The best bet on the day looked to be Trincomalee, who won the staying race. The punters agreed, and she was well supported into favouritism. Her recent sprint runs indicated she was looking for more ground, and she let no one down as she led all of the way for owner / trainer Sheila Smith, recording the time of 35.83.
Trevor Thompson kept up his assault on the Casino prize money when Halie Rose Hi ran 27.54 to win the Meat E Vite Extra pro stake after leading from the first turn. This time was only bettered by Faye Currey’s Loraian’s Horizon who ran 27.37 in a 7 1/2 length victory.
Miami Gold was again suited by a wide box and she clocked 27.59 for Beryl and Brian Stephens, whilst Little Big Horn won his maiden in 27.63 for the mayor of Grafton, John Corrigan.
Mavis Wilkinson, who has been having a good trot lately won the opening maiden with Bella’s Lady who ran 23.71, while Black Hassler won the other maiden in 23.35 for Tweed trainer Neville Tonks.
Casino race again this Friday with another action packed 12 event card.
