Bundanoon Qualifies Fastest For Casino’s Blue Paws Final

Versatile greyhound Bundanoon was clearly the fastest qualifier for this week’s Blue Paws fifth grade final with a slashing 27.26 win in his heat.

The Jeffrey Smith trained galloper went straight to the front, and the further they went, the further he raced away.

In the “wash up” he scored by 7 3/4 lengths, and with a similar beginning in the final, he will be the dog to beat. It was his fifth win at Casino where he has competed over all three distances.

To compare his dominance, the next best time was recorded by Bralyn Stripes who ran 27.90. He was also an all of the way winner for Brad Northfield. Cheeky Nera was just outside that with a 27.91 victory for Jim Madigan, whilst Peg Rose Hi rounded off the heats with a 28.07 win for Pat Lavis and Trevor Thompson.

Three heats of the Jim Caden Memorial maiden were also run, and each of the three winners came from box one. Rie’s Girl railed through on the home bend to win in 23.89 for Rosana Streatfield; Tobruk was never headed in running 23.57 for Trevor Salmoni, and Bruce Caden will have a runner in the race named in memory of his father, when Rosswill Smiles led throughout clocking 23.70.

The “Allegro” named dogs have always been synonymous with Alstonville trainer Neville Robson, and they were again in the limelight winning the two Free For Alls. Azure Allegro made it two in a row when she ran 23.03 in beating a quality field by 4 1/4 lengths, while Allegro Charm jumped straight onto the bunny to defeat her rivals by five lengths in 27.58. It was a perfect “pipe opener” for the Charcoal Inn Casino Cup that will be run later this month.

Runners carrying the red rug won half of the races on the program and Flying Fatty was one of these taking out the Casino Rural Traders final. She was yet another to lead and win, running 23.39 for popular owner / trainer Steve Sherwell.

Andad’s Girl was too strong in the novice distance race running 36.41 for Robbie Andrews and the Wazza Dazza Syndicate, and the well supported Postie’s Pick ran 23.31 for John Watts in the lucky last.

A top card of racing will again greet patrons this Friday afternoon.
