Fastest qualifier Azure Allegro was all the rage with punters, and all was going to script when she began well to lead early.
But at the winning post the first time, Bundanoon had crossed over from box three, and was an immediate threat. Spearing to the lead at that point, she put two lengths on the favourite, increasing that margin as they went into the back.
Having won here over the distance, she was always going to be hard to beat, and she found the line strongly to score by four lengths in a personal best time of 27.06. Azure Allegro ran a gallant second, and it’s kennelmate Allegro Charm was 2 3/4 lengths away in third position.
Jeffrey and Gloria Smith bred, own and train her locally, and she now has the record of nine wins fom twenty three starts.
Another local Brad Northfield certainly took training honours with four winners. Bralyn Stripes from the all conquering Hallucinate / Bralyn Maisie litter kicked off proceedings when he got around a packing field to race away and win by five lengths in 23.10. His sibling, Bralyn Miami continued the trot with an all of the way win in the distance event in 35.90, whilst Bralyn Midge atoned for a defeat in last week’s cup heats with a 27.24 victory. To top it all, Bralyn Sal was too strong in the “lucky” last beating Kingsbrae Dust in a thrilling tustle. She clocked 23.20.
The local trainers had a big night winning ten of the twelve races. These included the wins of Sammy’s Tears, Snitcher and Vard’s Choice in their respective 484 metre races. Sammy’s Tears led throughout to run 27.24 for Neil Falls, Snitcher finished too strongly to salute in 27.65 for Alan Lang, and Vard’s Choice took over as they went into the back, before clocking 27.88 for Charlie Northfield.
Jim Saunders has been out of the winners circle for a while, but he bounced back with the win of first starter History We Know in the opening maiden. She held on well to score by a half length in 23.75, while Cooper’s Pal led from the first bend to win in 23.50 for Darryl Armfield.
The move form the day to the twilight for our cup meeting proved very popular with double our normal crowd. TAB turnover both on and off course was particularly strong, and the pictures on Sky by All Occasions Video were outstanding. It was a great afternoon’s entertainment enjoyed by nearly everyone, and we do it again next Friday albeit in the earlier time slot.
