Danny Green To Be “Ringside” For Vic Peters Classic

Speed is essential to success in boxing and we all know that's the case when it comes to greyhound racing.

In just two days time the two will combine when one of Australia's leading boxers comes face-to-face with some of the country's fastest greyhounds.

World boxing champion Danny “Green Machine” Green will be the special guest at Sydney's this Saturday night for the running of the $50,000 to-the-winner Schweppes One Vic Peters Classic.

Showing the Harbour City is right behind him ahead of his fight against American Roy Jones Junior, the 10-race card on Saturday night will also feature the Green v Jones Stake.

Green has a long time connection and very special relationship with a veteran greyhound racing identity.

“I have close with a number of people who have been involved with greyhound racing and training for many many years, in particular a lady named Patty West,” Green said.

“She has followed and supported me throughout my career and I am grateful for that.

“Patty named a greyhound after me actually. It's called Ringside Rocca. It's only young so keep your eye out for him.

“I have always wanted to get to the race track on the rare occasions I get a break so this Saturday night will be pretty special.

“The speed and power of greyhounds is amazing. It is similar to boxing in a sense because speed and power are key to success in my sport.”

The Vic Peters Classic is the oldest feature event on the NSW greyhound racing Calendar.

First conducted in 1951 and is named in honour of Vic Peters, it's an age restricted event open to greyhounds aged between 14 and 26 months.
