Dyna Willow By A Nose In Exciting Finish To Summer Distance Plate

Dyna Willow (6) has snatched victory by a nose in the Group 2 Sportingbet Summer Distance Plate in a time of 42.48. As expected, the race leader was Benarkin (4), who put a number of lengths on the rest of the field. Destini Fireball (1) was doing all the chasing and he grabbed the lead up the home straight. However, Dyna Willow (6), who didn’t have it all her own way early, was eating up the metres along the rail behind Benarkin and Destini Fireball, grabbing the latter on the line. She managed to get clear of the pack down the back straight to start her race winning finish.

It was heartbreaking to see Destini Fireball go down by a nose as he deserved the win. Benarkin wound up in third. Race favourite Lucy Wires (5) got held up by the box and went very wide up the straight the first time, costing herself valuable ground.

This race is Dyna Willow’s second Group win in a matter of months at Wentworth Park. The Wheeler bred bitch, trained by Steven Collins, has now won over $145,000 in prize money.
