Falls Nets A Northern NSW Double At Casino

After a week of constant travelling, former Young Trainer of the Year returned to home base to secure a winning double last .

Highly fancied maiden performer Genista Diamond got the show on the road when he scored an impressive victory in race nine. Although slow to begin, she was able to punch up to be in a prominent position as they turned into the back section.

Railing superbly, she grabbed the front going to the top turn before going on to win by 2 3/4 lengths. In the following event the much improved Maxie’s Chariot won his heat of the Blue Paws Sprint to convert the “double.” He grabbed the premier position as the went through the catching pen, and went to the line strongly to win by 3 1/4 lengths. He clocked a speedy 27.31.

Stratheden trainer Rob Andrews also collected a “pair” with old marvel , and up and comer, . Beaver Fever won his twenty first race at Casino when he led throughout in the Casino RSM Club Free For All clocking 27.41, whilst Within Site won another heat of the Blue Paws sprint in similar fashion. He only won by a neck, but recorded 27.30. This week’s sprint final should be an interesting affair as the well graded ran a near record 27.18 in her heat, and Big Lesson overcame some early buffeting to take out his run off in 27.69.

After some twelve inches of rain in the last week or so, many thought the track may have been on the slow side, but Claude and Norma Dacey’s stayer Day Seas Cracker disproved that when she ran a new track record for the 620 metres. After scoring an emphatic victory at Tweed Heads the prevoius Saturday, Day Seas Cracker got to the lead at the winning post the first time and just kept racing away from her rivals. She won by 11 3/4 lengths and ran 35.28 which bettered Love Or Lust’s old mark of 35.35. Claude told me that he has been training for thirty five years and this is the first track record holder he has prepared, so congratulations go to him and the team.

The other staying race went to ’s Elle Babe Cloud who ran a good 35.43. She was well placed all of the way and finished too strongly to score by 2 1/4 lengths.

Bella Wisha made a late run to take out the Richmond Bakery maiden in 23.79 for Trevor Salmoni, whilst Beta Bear led all of the way to win the other maiden in 23.71. He’s prepared by .

placegetter Kate returned to win the 4th and 5th grade Ranvet stake in a good 23.09. She didn’t have it all of her own way though, as track specialist put it to her throughout. On the line she was too strong and won by 1 3/4 lengths.

A stong card will greet patrons this Friday, as besides the Blue Paws Final, there willl be a Tweed to Casino final and two highly competitive staying races.
