He was not in the market when he took out the Rapidvite Maiden series in February, but in only his second win since, he was able to beat some handy sprinters and grab the $3,000 cup purse.
He was well placed throughout, even though he started from box six, and railed through on the home bend to grab the lead. Trainer Chris Supple has always had a big opinion of this fellow, who ran a personal best time of 27.49 in scoring by a neck.
The best time over the 484 metres was recorded by Hillcrest Gwen who ran 27.40. Luck finally changed for this youngster, and with a clear run early she was able to grab the lead down the back where she raced away. When the judge called a halt, the Charlie Northfield trained sprinter scored by nine lengths. It was her fourth win from nineteen starts, and all of these wins have been on her home track.
There were only five starters in the Casino RSM Club Free For All but what an exciting affair it was. The five dogs went as “one” to the first bend with no runner giving an inch. Maxie’s Chariot kept pushing through along the paint, and he finally got to the front at the top bend. There, the Neil Falls trained sprinter the kicked clear, and on the line won by two lengths in a handy 23.14.
An impressive Mudgee Man came from last to early win the Richmond Bakery stake in 23.09 the best time over the shorter 411 metre trip. A recent acquisition to the Mitch Northfield kennel, he looked a forlorn hope as the high flying Kidatee Alf was highballing out in front. Knuckling down to the task though, he unleashed a powerful sprint to get up near home to salute by 3/4 length.
Follow Your Nose made it two on the trot when he crashed across from the outside box to win the Ranvet stake. He was another to run a personal best time (23.12) and won by 4 3/4 lengths. Danial Armfield trains him and he is certainly racing in great heart.
In the other events, Crystal Flute ran 23.33 after taking over at the first bend for Peter Simpson; Lorian’s Horizon led all of the way in 27.98 for Faye Currey; Just Rose railed well throughout to run 27.88 for Tim Billin, and Dayseas Suzie won the distance race in 35.94 for Claude Dacey.
Casino will race again this Friday afternoon with another big card of TAB racing.
