Golden Easter Egg Semi Finals Set For Mighty Showdown
Following the running of the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg heats (520m) on Saturday (April 9) at Wentworth Park, seeding and the box draw for this Saturday's semi-finals has been determined.
After drawing box three in last Saturday's heat, fastest semi-final qualifier, Radley Bale, has secured another inside draw (box 2) in semi-final A, drawing between kennel mates, Allen Hertz and Darya Bale.
Radley Bale, 29.45, fell just one hundredth shy of Queen Lauryn's Wentworth Park 520m track record in his impressive heat ten win on Saturday night.
“I am always confident with him (Radley Bale), he can begin well and he was well suited to the way he was boxed last Saturday,” trainer Graeme Bate said following the release of the semi-final box draw.
“The track was quick on Saturday night, but he is capable of breaking the track record anywhere he goes.
“He was only one hundredth off the track record at Sandown (on March 17) so he has only just missed two records now,” Bate said.
Bate was pleased with all five of his semi-finalists' box draws, despite the three kennelmates drawing alongside each other in semi final A.
Kilty Lad for Victorian trainer Kelly Bravo another smart winner on Saturday, producing a blistering 5.35 first section in his 29.62 win.
“He is generally quick early, and having a bit of a break (before the series) has been good for him,” Bravo said.
“He was a little bit underdone going into the race, having had six weeks off, and only a couple of runs in preparation.
“We were really happy with the run, and he has a bit up his sleeve going into week two, hopefully he peaks at just the right time,” Bravo said.
Kilty Lad will start favourite in his semi-final, with trainer Bravo pleased to have drawn just off the rails.
Box draw for Saturday's four semi-finals follows. Race order and times will be determined in full meeting box draw distributed Tuesday April 12.
