GRNSW releases new proposed prize money structure
GREYHOUND Racing (NSW) released a proposed new prize money structure Tuesday for the upcoming 2016/2017 racing calendar, with the aim to provide a more balanced distribution of prize money across all sectors of TAB racing within the state.
Notably, the new structure will result in an overall increase of total prize money distributed across the state of approximately $1.1 million, marking the first prize money increase in four years.
Another key aspect of the proposal includes the introduction of another category of racing – to be known as ‘Metropolitan Entry' – which will take the place of the current A2 category.
All Wentworth Park meetings on Wednesday night will see greyhounds racing for Metropolitan Entry prize money levels, as well as 13 meetings each at Dapto, Gosford, Richmond and The Gardens, with the proposal suggesting that all Metropolitan Entry race meetings will be treated as Category B meetings for the purposes of grading.
Each existing sector of racing is set to be affected by the proposal, with new prize money amounts to be paid out for the different grades at TAB C, TAB B and A1 category meetings.
TAB C racing will have a 25.57% change in the current prize money amounts paid out, while TAB B and A1 categories will experience a 5.98% and 3.1% change respectively.
Other changes under the proposed new structure include:
– A new minimum prize money amount with the addition of a third distance category – short (less than 420m), in addition to the sprint (421m – 564m) and distance (565m +) categories.
– A new model for travel subsidy which would see a slight reduction in the amount paid to trainers who are racing more than one greyhound at one TAB meeting.
– A reduction of club funding for group race prize money to allow more money to be injected into the grassroots level of racing.
Following the announcement, GRNSW has called for participants to have their say on the proposed new prize money structure by completing a Participant Feedback Form and returning it to GRNSW by the close of business on Friday May 20, 2016.
