He’s No Silly Billy And The Summer Cup Is Within His Grasp

He has beaten the best and now he must face the best once again in his biggest staying test to date. Billy Bobaggings has somewhat progressed his staying career under the until last week he produced a mighty come from behind effort to blow away multiple distance group winner by almost six lengths in a time of 42.69 over the 720 metre distance.

After not much attention from punters, the black and white dog was forced wide twice in his bid to secure the lead. He had to work but eventually got his way when he took the lead from at the top of the home turn. Once in full stride he extended his lead in running a strong 16.96 run home time securing box four in the Group Two Summer Cup to be held tomorrow night.

With highly credible statistics of eleven wins and eleven minor placings from twenty seven starts, punters can be forgiven for overlooking the $11.40 opening price as the calibre of greyhounds included in the field such as; Blue Lorian, Nana Cook and was worthy enough of a group race final.

For trainer Michael Blisset of Riverstone, Billy's career began as a sprinter, progressive to a middle distance chaser before finding his feet as a prominent stayer. His first start and maiden victory came at over the 472 metres where his best work was left to the finish after a traditional stayer slow start running 26.78.

His first staying test at Wentworth Park came in October when in a small field of four he was able to slowly cut down the lead of the speedy Hanify's Belle to score by half a length in 42.68. Since then his statistics now stand at five wins and a minor placing from just seven starts over the 720 metre trip.

The son of and Miss Connecticut will have to work hard to avoid the early struggle for the lead at the first turn and use the width of the Wentworth Park circuit to make his move down the back straight.

Miss Connecticut was a handy bitch herself trained by Londonderry master . She managed to notch up twelve wins and twenty five placings from sixty starts, her consistency is a quality that has rubbed off onto Bobaggings and his talented brother Barkhamsted who is making his mark in New Zealand greyhound racing having placed second in the Group Two Angus Wright Memorial at Cambridge back in August.

The Group Two Wentworth Park Summer Cup is a highly talented field with the best needed from Bobaggings to take the title.

The draw for the final to commence at 9.50pm is; 1.Mickie Keato, 2.Jarvis Bale, 3.Amus, 4.Billy Bobaggings, 5.Slick Lee, 6.Beware, 7.Blue Lorain, 8.Dynamic Frost.
