Hooksy Fires In Group One Peter Mosman Heats
Brilliant Victorian chaser Hooksy justified his short odds at Wentworth Park last night in a heat of the Group One Peter Mosman Classic, recording best of the night figures of 29.47. Stepping beautifully from box five, the son of Hondo Black and Uno Witch clocked sizzling sectionals of 5.34 and 17.66, coming home in a solid 11.81. The Tanya Auld trained speedster notched up his fourteenth win from twenty starts and has a healthy prizemoney total of $80,880.
Heat one went to in-form chaser Push It for Dean Swain, who continued his winning ways, recording his fourth consecutive victory at Wentworth Park in a speedy 29.81. Beginning brilliantly from box eight, the daughter of Collision and Low Gee Eye quickly crossed her rivals to score comfortably by three lengths at the finish. $1.90 favourite Keybow missed the start and got squeezed out at the first turn, before making up solid ground to finish second and move through to next week's semi finals.
Zipping Delta was also looking to continue her winning streak and was flawless from box one in heat two as the $2.20 favourite, racking up consecutive win number three. The daughter of Bekim Bale and Scarlett Spy was never headed in a dominant display, clocking 29.49. Jason Mackay's chaser recorded an impressive run home of 11.70 and takes her win tally to nine from 26 starts. Glenn Rounds All Strung Out was gallant in defeat, reducing the winning margin to just one length and will be a forced to reckon with in the semi-finals next week, clocking an outstanding time of 29.55.
Punters heavily supported Darren McDonald's Tiggerlong Amigo, starting as the $1.90 favourite in heat three, however he failed to fire from box three and finished in fifth position. Rank $17.00 outsider My Awesome Opal stunned enthusiasts by taking out the heat in 30.08 from box eight. The Marie Burton trained chaser began fast from box eight and crossed her rivals at the first turn to lead all the way and salute by five and three quarter lengths. Another $17.00 outside in Hilda's Boy chased hard and finished in second position.
In-form chaser Cawbourne Whip continued her outstanding run, clocking a flying 29.50 in heat four from box three. The Jodie Lord owned and trained daughter of Dyna Lachlan sped to the front and charged home in a brilliant run home of 11.62. She has now won her last four straight races and has 13 career wins from just 23 starts. Aurora Girl was very impressive from box two and reduced the winning margin to three and a quarter lengths, clocking 29.70.
Tommy Brislane is one of the most promising pups New South Wales at present, notching up his sixth career win last night from just seven starts. Stepping beautifully from box three, the Steve White trained chaser impressed once again in a fast time of 29.71. This consistent son of Premier Fantasy saluted by three and a half lengths over second placegetter Stilton Blue. The $2.20 favourite Deadly Vane found severe early trouble and tailed off to the back of the field.
All eyes will be on the box draw for next week's three semi-finals, with Hooksy now favourite to take out the Group One $75,000 final on June 21.
