Exiting from box three for the third consecutive time, the son of Hondo Black and Uno Witch caught the eye of enthusiasts after his outstanding heat win, where he clocked a sensational 29.44. One week later the Tanya Auld trained chaser was too good once again in 29.57, saluting by twelve and three quarter lengths.
The 36kg heavyweight stepped beautifully from the boxes and resisted early pressure from second favourite My Kinda Music, to lead comfortably at the first turn and record blistering sectionals of 5.36 and 17.67. Hooksy then streaked away at the finish by seven and a half lengths over Darren Sultana’s Irondale Bravo, with My Kinda Music for Alan Pringle finishing in third position.
Hooksy’s best of the night performance was simply breath-taking and takes his career statistics to an impressive twelve wins from seventeen starts with four minor placings, and a healthy prizemoney total of $60,430.
