Kempsey Derby & Oaks Loom In The New Year

Kempsey Greyhound Club is gearing for a bumper summer carnival with five race days planned for early in the New Year.

The heats of the Kempsey Oaks will be held on January 6 ahead of the finals on Januray 10 with $1000 up for grabs for the winner.

A week later the finals of the will be run before the carnival concludes with the Kempsey Kings verses Queens final on Saturday, January 24.

The Kings verses Queens final will see the first four place getters from both the Derby and the Oaks go head to head for the chance to scoop an extra $500.

Meanwhile, the club held its final meet of the year at the Kempsey track on Sunday. In the Macleay Hotel Christmas Sprint dashed home to win by one and a half lengths.

Third coming into the straight he ducked back inside to streak home for a comfortable win and a $500 Christmas bonus for Dave and Deb Marshall.

The Shane Staples trained romped home to win the Clarke Bedding Stakes over 508m by a mammoth eight and a quarter lengths.

Racing from box one it beat home Let's and the Frank Simonetta trained in a time of 30.03 to claim the win.

In the final race of the day overcome a poor box draw to claim victory for when it stormed home to win by three and a half lengths in the Committee Stakes over 350m.

Couran Cove streaked home in a blistering time of 20.47 to grab the win ahead of and Mozzie's Girl.
