As expected, the two heat winners of the Beaver Fever Distance Trophy dominated the final at last Friday’s meeting. Both Bundanoon and Bralyn Sal had led throughout in the heats, and soon after the start this week, Bralyn Sal was highballing out in front.
As the field went out of the straight for the first time danger loomed, as Bundanoon positioned himself right behind the leader. In a great chasing exhibition both went together, but on the circle Bundanoon proved that little stronger and grabbed the front before going on to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 35.76.
He’s owned and trained by Jeff Smith, and he had a double reason to celebrate as litter sister Goarder won the race prior, the Mc Donald’s Pharmacy maiden. She also came home strongly to win by 1 3/4 lengths in 27.65.
Local greyhound industry heavyweight Peter Simpson also landed a double when he dominated the early sprint races. Light Of Trey got out well and kicked clear in the back section to bolt away with the Richmond Valley Pet Foods stake. He scored by nine lengths in a fast 22.93. Ferocious Lad also began fast and held the rails as they went to the back. Scooting away, he went on to win by 4 1/2 lengths in 23.33 for owner Don Jones. Besides his rearing and training at Renzo Park, Peter also runs a greyhound courier business, so he’s on the job seven days a week.
Tah Bella was rewarded for he consistency when she held off a determined Kingsbrae Jane in 23.42. The Steve Casey trained sprinter seems to like Casino where she has had nine starts for two wins and three placings. Friday’s win was in a personal best time.
The Margaret Dwyer trained Woodview Lass won her second distance race at the track when she was an all of the way winner in the Rapidvite stake. Getting staright onto the bunny she waltzed away to win by 3 1/4 lengths. She also improved her time to run 35.91.

Dean Turley’s Bouncy trailed the leader to the back before bouncing on the lead and running 27.50, while Sammy’s Tears jumped straight to the front to run the best time over 484 metres – 27.35. Neil Falls puts the polish on her.
Ted Rose Hi gave Trevor Thompson his usual winner when he ran 27.89, and Cheeky Nera closed out the meeting when she ran 23.21 for Jim Madigan.
