Greyhound fans won’t have to wait long for one of the highlights of tonight’s excellent meeting at The Gardens, when the highly promising Lochinvar Lee steps out in the first event of the night.
The superbly bred son of champion sire Just The Best and Knockabout Wilma, who ran second in the 2004 Group One National Futurity, gains a start from box four after initially being the first reserve in race one, The Eden’s Bistro Open Tonight Stake over 515 metres.
Owned by Heather Gordon, the daughter of NCA director Kevin Gordon, and under the guidance of master trainer, Robert Smith, Lochinvar Lee has only had one public outing, where he trialled in fast time at Maitland at the start of April, and he is expected to start his race track career off in style.
Tonight maybe an entree for Smith and the Gordon family, who will be represented in Melbourne tomorrow night by Group Two winner Lochinvar Vogue, who is a leading chance against the cream of the Nation’s best long distance chasers in a heat of the Sandown Cup, Australia’s richest race for stayers.
The best bet of this evening’s program, is Emo Appeal, number one in race seven, the Cool Mat @ Stud Stakes over the 600 metres.
A form analysis suggests that the John Harris trained runner will appreciate a rise in distance, saying;
“EMO APPEAL (1) steps back up in distance which is ideal, safe beginner with good early speed that should jump straight to the top & run rivals ragged, clearly the one to beat.”
The best value for punters appears to be Legendary Lillie, who will jump from box eight in race two, the Multicam Systems Stake, over the short course 413 metres.
There are 10 quality races on tonight’s card, covered by Sky Racing1, but if you’re in Newcastle, the best way to catch all the excitement is by being at The Gardens. ‘Edens’ restaurant is open with great food at reasonable prices, right on top of the action. Bookings can be made on (02) 49515842.
You can bet live on tonight’s bumper meeting at The Gardens at Iasbet or Sportsbet, with the first race of the program scheduled to kick off at 7.05pm AEST.
