Greyhound Racing NSW Stewards yesterday concluded an inquiry into a complaint received from GRNSW Head Veterinarian Mr Brian Daniel regarding an alleged incident which was said to have occurred in the catching pen after the running of Race 6 at the meeting conducted by the GBOTA at Wentworth Park on 21st January 2012.
Evidence was taken from Mr Mark Roberts, Dr Daniel, GBOTA race night staff Mr Steve Kelly and Mr Richard Abacherli, and licensed Trainers Mr Ronald Bell, Mr Russell Mansley and Mr Michael Hardman. Written evidence was also tendered on behalf of Mr Roberts by veterinarian Dr David Larratt.
Mr Roberts pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under GAR 86 (o) in regards to engaging in the use of inappropriate language and removing the personal property of Dr Daniel, in the vicinity of the catching after the completion of Race 6 on the abovementioned evening.
After considering submissions on penalty Mr Roberts was disqualified for a period of 12 months. In determining penalty Stewards considered Mr Roberts plea, the apology offered to Dr Daniel during the course of the Inquiry which showed remorse on the part of Mr Roberts, his personal circumstances, his previous record in relation to such offences which includes some three prior offences to the same rule over a seven year involvement in the industry and the effects that such offences have on the image of greyhound racing.
Mr Roberts was advised of his rights of appeal.
