Nova Surf Still In Australia………And Flying!!

The darling of the New South Wales sprinting ranks, Nova Surf, is “very much still in Australia……and she is going better than ever”. That's the word direct from regarding the pint size pocket rocket who hasn't been seen on the track since late August.

Confusion surrounded her future when Australian Racing Greyhound were informed by one of our overseas sources that Nova Surf had been sold to international interests, but her owner Allan Tindall has clarified that situation.

“Yes, she was the subject of a very large offer from overseas but I can tell you now, there is no way any amount of money could buy this bitch!”.

“She is the first greyhound I have been associated with and it is such a thrill to see her running……that sort of feeling can't bought” said Tindall.

Nova Surf, the winner of 15 of 26 career starts with 8 placings and earnings of $63,575; is quite possibly the best bitch in greyhound racing in the present time to not have won a group race yet, although she has gone mighty close on four separate occasions.

The flying black daughter of Surf Lorian ~ Nova Keroma ran third in the 2009 Futurity in February at The Gardens, then she was collared on the line by Magnifique in the 2009 , she finished second behind in the 2009 Group 1 at and an injury setback saw her finish third in the 2009 Group 1 Laurels, a race which she looked to have at her mercy.

Nova Surf has only been seen on the track three times since that run and we asked Allan what had caused the absence.

“She didn't have a lot of luck in Melbourne…we had a few setbacks, then she came on season and we had her back trialling but she suffered a small bone injury and it has just been matter of waiting.”

“She is back with Neal (Gray) and she is trialling the house down” said an excited Tindall who explained he and trainer Neal Gray have known each other for over 40 years and a large part of the enjoyment racing Nova Surf has been sharing it with his good mate.

“All things going to plan she will possibly be entered for a race at next week, and going on the times she is trialling at The Gardens, she has come back even faster than before”.

There is no doubt group races will be her short term targets and although she is no longer eligible for “age classic” races, Tindall is upbeat about her potential to win against the best in Australia.

“It's really up to Neal to decide where we go with her but a track like Angle Park would give her every advantage to compete against the best and a race like the could be a nice race for her”.

“I'd be happy just to see her win a race at Wentworth Park…..they crucified her when when we sent her there last time, throwing her straight in to a Free For All despite having never even won on the track” said Tindall.

But for now connections will be happy just to see her back on the track and running up to her best and New South Wales greyhound racings fans may only have to wait until next week to see their star sprinter burning up the Hunter Valley tracks again.
