NSW Greyhound Racing To Raise Stakes For Cystic Fibrosis

Greyhound Racing NSW and Cystic Fibrosis NSW are pleased to announce that they will join forces in May to help raise much-needed funds to improve the quality of life of people living with Cystic Fibrosis.

As part of Cystic Fibrosis National 65 Roses Day campaign, each of the 35 greyhound racing tracks in NSW will stage their own 65 Roses Race Meeting in May.

Every time a greyhound wearing the red rug (number one) wins a race at a 65 Roses Race Meeting, Greyhound Racing NSW will donate $250 to Cystic Fibrosis.

It is hoped that 65 greyhounds wearing the red rug will win throughout the month of May at the designated 65 Roses Race Meetings.

Cystic Fibrosis is the most common life threatening, recessive genetic condition affecting Australian children.

At present there is no cure, but organisations such as Cystic Fibrosis Australia (the national body) are dedicated to funding further research into the condition and Cystic Fibrosis NSW to providing services and support to people in NSW who live with Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis NSW CEO Alex Huntir said Greyhound Racing NSW's support of the 65 Roses Day campaign would help his organisation provide support to people with Cystic Fibrosis and to one day find a cure for the condition.

“The 65 Roses Day campaign is a vital way for our organisation to raise funds and help improve the quality of life for people living with Cystic Fibrosis and their carers,” Mr Huntir said.

“The support by Greyhound Racing NSW and all of the 35 tracks state-wide is greatly appreciated so I urge everyone to get behind the red dogs throughout the month of May and support people affected by Cystic Fibrosis.”

Greyhound Racing NSW Chief Executive Brent Hogan said the campaign was a fantastic way to help fund further research into Cystic Fibrosis and that Greyhound Racing NSW was pleased to partner with Cystic Fibrosis NSW and Cystic Fibrosis Australia to achieve this.

“Cystic Fibrosis is a debilitating condition that affects thousands of Australians and their families,” Mr Hogan said.

“We believe the 65 Roses Race Meetings are greyhound racing's best way of providing support to Cystic Fibrosis so we encourage all our clubs and participants to get right behind the cause in their local communities to try and make a difference any way they can.”

WIN Television has put its support behind the campaign by becoming an official partner and will run 65 Roses Race Meeting advertisements on all of its regional networks throughout May.
