Orange Speedball Body Building Capsule Lands NSW Greyhound Trainer Four Months

Greyhound on Monday 21 February 2011 inquired into analyst's reports that the urine sample taken from Jaylo Jenny after that greyhound won race four, the Luddenham Pet Foods Maiden Stake at the meeting on Wednesday 22 December 2010, had been analysed and confirmed to contain the prohibited substance and its metabolites , theophylline and .

Evidence was taken from trainer Mr Christian Barker, with written evidence tendered from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory and the Racing Science Centre, Queensland.

Evidence given established that prior to the race on the day in question, Mr Barker had administered an unregistered product, Speedball, labelled to contain caffeine, to Jaylo Jenny, without ascertaining the properties of the product.

Mr Barker subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under GAR 83 (2) (a) in that he presented Jaylo Jenny for the race in question other than free of in that the urine sample taken from the greyhound after the race was found to contain the prohibited substance caffeine and its metabolites.

Mr Barker was subsequently disqualified for a period of four months, to expire on 20 June 2011. In considering penalty Stewards took into account Mr Barker's co-operation with the , his personal circumstances which showed that although he had been licensed for almost 20 years he was relatively inexperienced, his guilty plea and other penalties involving this substance.

Notwithstanding this Stewards considered that in all such circumstances a penalty should be imposed having regard to the negligence involved in administering a substance labelled as containing caffeine without seeking veterinary advice and having kept no record of .

Jaylo Jenny was disqualified from the race in question under GAR 83 (4).
