Starting at huge odds of $28 from box two, the son of El Grand Senor and Roseberry Rose scored an impressive win by four and three quarter lengths in a time of 22.91 over the 407m journey.
Ricochet Rose won his heat from box one last week in 23.24 by two and three quarter lengths and continued his good form, upsetting a promising field of youngsters in the final including favourite Spring Missile. The Christine Oldfield trained chaser failed to fire from box six and finished at the tail of the field.
Runner-up Jazzy Lou also defied her $15 odds to run a gallant race behind the winner after gaining a start in the ten rug. Ray Steele’s Lady Ronray finished in third position.
Tonight’s card also featured the Distance Challenge, which won by Geoff Sattler’s Where’s Fina in 35.34 over the 610m. Pumped Up Zarr scored a huge five and a quarter length win in the $5,000 Stayers Cup event, also conducted over the 610m, defeating Knave and Tony Brett’s $1.80 favourite Benarkin.
Brett didn’t leave the track empty handed, with his quality chaser Chant picking up a handy $6,000 for his efforts in the Sprinters Cup final over the 407m, scoring by two and a half lengths in a smart time of 22.89. The beautifully bred son of Mogambo and Velocity Thunder has blossomed since returning to the short course distance and backed up a superb performance from last week, where he recorded 22.76. Geoffrey Uhrhane’s Coco Benz finished a gallant second in the event, whilst Golden Easter Egg finalist Magic Display wound up in third position.
Tonight’s meeting concluded another brilliant carnival at the Grafton Club. The carnival continues to attract high profile trainers and greyhounds to the track and the prizemoney on offer has been nothing short of outstanding this year.
