A determined chasing effort by young greyhound Robbed saw her take out the Mc Donald’s Pharmacy maiden last Friday. After jumping well and leading early, she couldn’t quite get to the front, and suffered severe buffeting as the went into the back section.
Balancing up, she made a big run to again challenge for the lead on the home bend, and was too strong in the end winning by two lengths. The time of 28.34 can be somewhat discounted because of the interference.
She is trained locally by Dean Turley who tasted success earlier in the day when Ripped Unit won the Sportingbet maiden. He jumped straight to the lead and was never troubled in scoring by eight lengths in a handy 23.24.
As predicted, Bundannon proved too strong in the Blue Paws 5th grade final for Jeff and Gloria Smith. Faultless beginner Fire Hawk led them up, but when Bundanoon galloped into second place, danger loomed. She got the better of the leader past the 620 metre boxes and went on to win by 2 3/4 lengths in 23.03 the best time of the day. To put the “icing on the cake” for the Smith’s, litter sister Goarder won the race prior, the novice distance stake. She virtually led all of the way to clock 35.67 in a 10 3/4 length victory.
The Greg Hancock trained Webby Dude broke a plethora of minor placings with a win in the Madsen’s Meats 5th grade. It was a mixing affair up front, and Webby Dude was able to take full advantage by coming from near last to grab the premier position on the circle. In the “wash up” she won by 3/4 length in 24.17, a time that told the story.
Proper Lucy atoned for an unlucky defeat the previous week when she won the Shane Newstead stake. She had box one again, and stuck to the fence all of the way to run a fast 23.05. Although the runner up Mudgee Man tried to match motors with the winner, the Charlie Northfield runner was too classy, scoring by 4 1/4 lengths.
Nice As jumped straight onto the bunny and led all of the way for Bob Cooke clocking 23.24, and Quick Slick Chic was also never headed in winning the Westlawn stake for Darren Crates. She ran the best over the 484 metres – 27.76.
The top grade Casino RSM Club stake went to Karanne Star who railed through at the first bend before stopping the clock at 23.06, and Athol Bradley’s Miss Anniston won the opening maiden in 23.56 after being third away.
The Tweed to Casino final resulted in a quinella for Gavin Lowe when Reflux Cloud beat Commando Cloud by two lengths in 23.39, and Real Drive ran down Jaydo’s Neglect to score by 1 1/4 lengths in 27.90.
Patrons will be greeted by another attractive twelve race TAB card next Friday afternoon.
