Shimaguni’s 2011 Chairman’s Cup

Fans of staying greyhounds were treated to an outstanding display on Saturday night, September 10 at as Victorian trained Shimaguni (pictured below – centre) won the 2011 Tedesco Menswear Chairman's Cup.

The short price favourite was expected by most to improve on her impressive 42.14 heat win, and that she did.

Shimaguni positioned herself behind the early leader at the post for the first time, before taking up the lead down the back and shooting away for a 3 ¾ length win.

Trainer Jim Redenbach was ecstatic with his star stayers performance, with the duo to return for future staying events at Wentworth Park in coming months.

“I had a few eyes in my tears my eyes after that run, I am just so happy,” Reddenbach said.

“She positioned herself well and being such a good beginner I think she will be in the same position in future events.

“She is just so excitable however and once she learns to settle a bit more I think she could be even better.”

Redenbach was appreciative of all of the support he had received in his visits to Wentworth Park, with local trainer Domenic Traino housing Reddenbach and Shimaguni in the lead up to the final.

“I flew her up this week rather than driving,” Redenbach said.

“Because she is so excitable she lost a bit of weight in the heats through the travel, whereas this week the flying has meant she hasn't lost any weight at all, which I am happy about.

“I was very lucky to be able to stay with Domenic, it helped the dog and me a lot, I can't thank him enough,” Redenbach added.

Shimaguni is next expected to line up in the 2011 on October 8 over 720 metres, which could add another $25,000 to her prizemoney purse should she win
