Simmons Lithgow Appeal Upheld

The Greyhound yesterday considered an appeal by Lithgow Greyhound Racing Club starter and Identification Steward Mr against an order from () that he be stood down from identification duties at that Club following his involvement in identification errors at the Lithgow meetings on the 6th and 13th June this year.

Following submissions from counsel for Mr Simmons and GRNSW, it was the decision of the tribunal that the order to stand down be quashed and the appeal be upheld on the basis of Mr Simmons’ undertaking not to work as an Identification Steward for six months or until he receives remedial training in the correct procedures for identification of greyhounds at race meetings (whichever occurs first).

This training is to commence at the earliest available opportunity.

Having regard to all of the circumstances involved in the incidents on these dates, GRNSW is of the firm belief that such measures act in the best interests of Greyhound Racing in this state to ensure that every measure is undertaken to protect the public and industry participants from the possibility of similar incidents occurring in the future.
