Heats of this year’s Evans and Son Jeweller Ladies Bracelet are the highlight of this Saturday’s program at Wentworth Park.
“We are delighted with the response from trainers which has resulted in the programming of four quality heats on Saturday – races five to eight and they are brim full of talent,” said GBOTA Deputy Executive Officer, Jeff Browne.
“This Group 2 event over 520m restricted to bitches, carries a winner’s purse of $25,000 plus a magnificent trophy of a ladies bracelet crafted by the sponsor,” Browne added.
Heat one includes the experienced Group race campaigner, 2009 Golden Easter Egg winner Dana Beatrice, opposed by the lightly raced and talented Little Sparkle, a last start winner at the track in a slick 29.94.
The 2010 Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg favourite and third place getter in that race, Fancy Mandy heads the line up in heat two, favourably drawn in box three. Fancy Mandy’s form since contesting Australia’s richest greyhound event has been excellent with wins in fast times at Dapto and Richmond before a last start second to the in-form Did I Entertain at headquarters last Saturday in a fast 29.98. Shirl’s Magic with a 29.87 win included in its four wins from 12 starts over the Wentworth Park 520m looms as a threat in this race.
Starfire Havoc lines up in heat three in an attempt to win this race for a second time, after success in this event last year. Highly rated Victorian sprinter Flash Of Light will have lots of admirers in this heat, with a record of 24 wins from 54 starts, including a slick 29.96 win at Wentworth Park. The ever consistent Direct Jolie has a good draw in box three and is capable of winning this heat for trainer Mark Arncliffe.
Cindeen Shelby will go out at short odds in the final heat after drawing box one. She is a champion galloper with an outstanding record. She has won seven of 16 at Wenty (best 29.77) and 29 out of 51 overall. None of her opponents has broken 30 at the track but the talented Certain Magic has gone close, winning in 30.08, but she has to contend with box eight with plenty of speed drawn inside.
Trainer Troy Sharpe will fly the flag for Queensland when he contests heats one and two with the well performed Oxygen Lil and Berella Rihanna.
“With the May 8 final coinciding with the Mother’s Day weekend, all ladies attending this meeting will be admitted free,” Browne said
“In addition there’s a lucky draw for all the ladies attending on the night, with the prize also a magnificent ladies bracelet from Evans and Son Jeweller, valued at over $2000,” he concluded.
