A committee set up to develop a multimillion dollar racing precinct for Tamworth says it has cleared the first hurdle.
Members drawn from the council, horse racing, harness and greyhound clubs say it has been confirmed all three codes will be able to fit their racetracks into the one facility in Taminda.
It will now prepare a feasibility study and business plan and develop a timetable for the project.
This announcement comes on the eve of Tamworths major race carnival for the year,The Tamworth Cup Carnival; which kicks off this Saturday with three outstanding heats of the GRNSW Country Challenge Series over the 457 metres.
The $4,000 to the winner series set to culminate on Saturday May 3 has attracted some quality greyhounds including the return of last years Tamworth Cup winner Kingsbrae Di who is a winner of 40 races including four wins from as many outings at Tamworth.
