While GRNSW Stewards have declined to declare the nature of the prohibited substance/s involved, it is interesting that both positive swab inquires stem from Murray trained greyhounds racing at Newcastle greyhound track, The Gardens.
On 18th February 2011, Solitary Sam won a heat of the Stayers Of Tomorrow 600m grade 5 series, falling in by a nose in 35.50 after leading all the way.
It was Solitary Sam’s first run at a distance further than 515m and the winner paid double figures on all totes.
Solitary Sam had no support at all on Betfair, but GRNSW Stewards ordered a post race urine sample be taken.
Solitary Sam ran last in the Stayers Of Tomorrow grade 5 final just one week later, after being prominent early.
Solitary Sam won twice more at The Gardens over 515m on the 12th March 2011 and 30th March 2011 but no routine swab was ordered on either occasion.
In fact it was on 30th March 2011 at The Gardens when Neath trainer, Tim Murray trained a double on the card. After Solitary Sam won in 29.89, Murray’s other runner Knocka Who jumped straight tot he front and led all the way in a 400m maiden race, winning by 5 lengths in 23 seconds dead.
It was from this run that Murray’s second positive swab inquiry stems.
Knocka Who franked the form of his maiden win by winning again on the 9th April 2011, again leading all the way in 23.12, winning .75 of a length. On this occasion however, no swab was ordered be taken by stewards.
