Token Mulwee Sets The Pace At Kempsey

Great weather and great racing were the order of the day as the staged heats of the final round of the Country Challenge.

Another feature of the day were the heats of Euchre Point Stud over the 350m for greyhounds with 0-1 wins.

But first up and in race 1 a Blue Paws bonus race for maidens over the 350m and Airborne Crew for scored by an ever widening 3 lengths winning in a time of 20.94 from Rema's Fella and the first starter Dawnie's Angel.

Race 2 a maiden over the 508m and it saw David Marshall with finally cracked it at start number 24 when he scored very well in a good time of 30.45 from and Stormy Sapphire who both tried hard.

Race 3, heat 1 of the Country Challenge saw the outsider of the field Hat Rack for lead throughout and hold off all the challengers to score in a slick 30.01 from Keg Leg Keegan with Ebony Vane a good run for 3rd.

Race 4 heat of the Euchre Point Stud and Sir Snippalot who looked very hard to beat when the draw came out, lived right up to his good recent form when he scored by 1 ½ lengths from Satan's Grin who tried hard all the way and Tee Tee Townsend a further 4 ¾ lengths behind. The winner scored in a nippy 20.44.

Race 5, heat 2 of the Country Challenge and the grand old campaigner for Joanne Russell gave his younger rivals a start and a beating, winning his heat in the fastest of the day in 29.89, T.M needs a good finish in next weeks final to be crowned the Challenge Cup King and get the $10,000 bonus, so good luck Joanne.

Race 6 heat 2 of the Euchre Point and Mama's Sugar for scored a very emotional win for all concerned when she raced away in the concluding stages to win by 6 ½ lengths from Speedster and City Ranger a further 9 behind. Mama's Sugar scored in a fast 20.55.

Race 7, heat 3 of the Country Challenge and it saw Zacavier for Ronald Gwynne continue on his winning ways when he streeted the field by 3 ¾ lengths in a good time of 30.37, he beat the old boy Danger Boy (who is 6 in November) with Camden Dream coming in 3rd.

Race 8, heat 3 of the Euchre Point and Peppy Snake for Sabrina Brown got the chocolates scoring in a time of 20.84 from Detective Eames and Candy Patches.

Race 9 a 4th grade event over the 350m and Jen Ex Yowie for scored an upset win to beat Kegs on Legs by ½ length with Nimble Tatoo, the winner scoring in a good 20.62.

Race 10, heat 4 of the Country Challenge and Greg Carragher brought up his double when Kodie's Kiss scored well in 30.20 to beat Bago Raider by 1 ¼ lengths and taking out 3rd prize.

Race 11, heat 4 of the Euchre Point and another trainer to bring up a double, this time Sabrina Brown, when her bitch Mulwee Bye scored in a time of 20.72 by 1 ¾ lengths from Detective Goren and the first starter Hayden's Highway 3rd.

Race 12 the final heat of the Euchre Point and the jackpot dog Spirit of Mulwee zipped along the rails in the closing stages to beat Total Panic who looked the winner 2 strides out and Cameo Appearance a further 3 ¾ lengths back, the winner scored in a tidy 20.87.

Next weekend should be a beauty with the final of the Euchre Point Stud and the big finale of the GRNSW Country Challenge. Can the grand old man take out the final and the crown ??? …. Come to Kempsey on Saturday and find out!.
