The Gardens 400 metre track record holder, Northern Echo returns to Newcastle today in race six, the Woy Woy Poultry Stake.
Trained at Pillar Valley near Grafton on the North Coast of NSW by the highly respected Reg Gardoll, Northern Echo set the time standard of 22.46 for the short course circuit, which has not looked like getting breached despite class group quality chasers winning over the new journey.
The son of Hallucinate and Silent Melody has won 11 races from 21 starts, including two out of three at the track and distance, with many good judges believing his record run will stand the test of time.
Northern Echo will start at prohibitive odds and his job has also been made easier with the scratching of Kiss Me Declan, leaving a vacant box on his inside and giving him a clearer run from the boxes. Also none of his rivals today have broken 23 seconds for the 400 metre journey.
One of the best clashes of the day appears to be race two; the Tooheys Stakes over 515 metres, where Marina’s Limerick will tackle the talented, but injury plagued Beachley Lane.
However, the form analyst has made Marina’s Limerick his best bet of the meeting, saying;
“The classy MARINAS LIMERICK (8) steps up in distance which is ideal, good beginner with early speed that can carve over to the lead & run away with this, clearly the one to beat.”
The form analyst has rated Clear Choice, box two in race eight, the Bacardi Stakes as the best value bet of the card, reporting;
“CLEAR CHOICE (2) ran an absolute bottler when beaten in flying time here last start, clearly the best run of his career, strikes an easier line up, the one to beat.”
