Youngsters Show Plenty Of Class In Grafton Classic

Ten terrific heats of the Taylor Family Clarence Valley Sheds Maiden Classic were held at , with more than a few promising pups emerging from the series. Francis Hancock had a fantastic night with his two talented litter mates, Lady Hannalore and Lady Jasmin setting the track alight in their respective heats, with the latter clocking the fastest qualifier in a 23.06 seconds over the 407 metre distance.

In the second heat, Lady Hannalore began well from box seven and skipped right away from her opposition, setting up a big break to score by eight and one quarter lengths on the line. The blue bitch started at the ominous odds of $1.80, a price not seen too often with first starters, however certainly lived up to expectations clocking a fast 23.38 seconds at her first racetrack appearance.

In the following race, litter sister Lady Jasmin was also heavily supported with punters backing her into $1.60 from the cherry. When the lids flew open, the Spring Grove sprinter bounced straight to the front and from there it was a case of times and margins with the black bitch eventually winning by four and one quarter lengths in a red hot 23.06 seconds.

The dynamic duo are by Collision out of the handy race bitch Dulcinea. Dulcinea was raced by and faced the starter on seventeen occasions from which she managed seven wins and six placings. The daughter of Primo Uno and Hannalore has had just one litter to race since retiring to the breeding barn, with many of her offspring turning into good young propositions despite not turning two years of age until October.

Also collecting training doubles in the maiden heats were and Preston Rowles.

The first of Brett's double saluted in race seven with Chant victorious in 23.22 seconds. The son of Mogambo and Velocity Thunder was having his first start last night after a recent performance trial at where he recorded 24.53 seconds for the 420 metre trip. Beginning moderately from box six, the black youngster showed plenty of speed to find the front, kicking clear to take out the event by one and three quarter lengths.

Brett's second heat winner got up in heat nine, with the well-bred Exhibitionist also demonstrating a strong chasing performance to score ahead of outsiders Super Frank ($28.30) and Mustang Cloud ($22.90) by five and three quarter lengths in a handy 23.41 seconds. The Superman pup is only of age but certainly showed plenty of class, scoring like many other heat winners, at what was his first race start.

Preston Rowles took out the first half of his training double in race four, with Ridiculousness starting at the generous odds of $4.40. In a roughly run event, Ridiculousness began only fairly but quickly found the front, stretching out to break his maiden status in 23.38 seconds. The 33 kilogram chaser is certainly bred to run being a son of Collision and the great little race bitch who notched up eleven wins on the track including lightning fast times at Gardens (29.49 seconds), (29.83 seconds) and Dapto (29.89 seconds).

Litter sister She's Scandalous also captured plenty of attention after a phenomenal last to first performance in heat eight. Drawn awkwardly in box six, the blue brindle bitch missed the kick but still managed to clinch victory in a fast 23.18 seconds. She's Scandalous went into the event with plenty of expectations for her first race start after her amazing qualifying trial at where she went just .03 outside of the 350 metre track record registering an impressive 19.50 seconds.

The final of the prestigious $12,000 to the winner event will be held on Wednesday the 10th July and is sure to be an intriguing affair with nearly every runner capable of snaring the prize.
