Zipping Tess The Highlight Of The First Round Of Easter Egg Preludes

The first round of Preludes took place at on Saturday night.

The first Prelude was taken out by $21.00 chance Pride Of Mykonos. The black dog by – Evangelia had terrible form coming into the race, running worse then fifth in nine of its last 10 starts. Race favourite Glama Pak (1) didn't use box one well and was out of the race at the first turn. Pride Of Mykonos led easily, crossing the field before the post and sailing away down the back. Zipping Logan (4) emerged as the only chance to run the leader down but couldn't do enough, falling short by one length. My Boy Snoop (5) finished strongly for third. Pride Of Mykonos, trained by Fay Wotton, recorded 30.17 for his sixth career victory from 54 starts.

Martin Hallinan's Zipping Tess (4) led from go to whoa to take out the second Prelude by six and a half lengths in a fast 29.82 Unorthodox (2) battled away behind her but was well and truly beaten. The run of the race was third place-getter Linski (6). Suffering interference and back in the pack approaching the first turn, Linski managed to negotiate a safe passage and took off down the back, running within one and a quarter lengths of Unorthodox.

The final Prelude was a closely contested affair. The Marie Burton trained Woods (3) led but soon had Gibbonator (1) on his hammer. Gibbonator was pressing hard for a rails run and in doing so, checked off the back of Woods and lost valuable in the process. He's Rising Fast (6) ran a race and-a-half, moving into second after Gibbonator lost ground and pressed Woods in the run home, losing by one and a half lengths. Gibbonator was a neck away in third. The winning time was a moderate 30.49, far below Woods' best of 30.05.

As winners of the three Preludes; Pride Of Mykonos, Zipping Tess and Woods will be given priority into the heats of the One Golden Easter Egg on the 5th of April. Further Preludes will take place at Wentworth Park next Saturday night.
