Albions Park’s 600 Metre King Aims For Five Straight

Albion Park 600m king will chase his fifth straight win when he lines up in the $10,000 Big Dog Challenge final Thursday night.

The -trained star is jumping from box three in the night's main race and is expected to feature as red hot favourite in the betting ring.

The Big Dog Challenge is a 600m mixed final worth $6,650 to the winner.

Black Ruler has shown impressive form over the past few months improving every week, and once again posted a new personal best last week, clocking in at 34.78.

Known for his early speed, Black Ruler is expected to take the lead from Sassy Sprite in box eight to the first turn.

Sassy Sprite, who is the litter-mate to Group One champion bitch , has shown good form over the distance at Albion Park, placing in all starts but yet to cross the line first.

Consistent performer from the Ron Ball kennels, Xanadu's Image, will also contest the final three having finished there three times in her 15 starts at Albion Park.

Thursday night's race card will have some exciting 520m racing also, including the Christmas Stocking Final.

The feature race saw some impressive performances in the heats last week, including a very quick run from 's .

Winning from box three, Ruffian clocked in at 30.02 to make four wins and two placings from his six starts over the distance at the Creek. Ruffian will again jump from box three in tonight's final.

The race should be a fairly evenly matched event including the very quick Sky Larking from box four and consistent fast chaser Shooster, in box six.

The Ron Ball-trained Like The Look will also be one to watch from outside in box seven.

Several dogs from the Group One Sky Channel will make a return to 520m racing tonight also, including third place getter from the final, Intelligence.

The Lee Wylie-trained dog has drawn a favourable box two in Race Two, the Rock Doctor's Classic, and will be looking to find the rail early.

However, he will need to jump well to contend a win with plenty of speed out wide ready to pounce on any mistakes including Ace Fantasy (box six), Illusion Star (box seven), and (box eight).

Race Four on the night, the Santa's Little Helper 600m, will see One Missing look to reclaim form after running second to a performance from Power Shift over 710m last week.

Stepping back to 600m, One Missing will be looking to cross for the lead from box eight, but is sure to meet competition from Colin Graham's Bluey's Spirit in box two.

Other chances in the race include Jillie Bean, in box five, and Free Cheers, from box seven.

Race five of the night will be an Open Event over 710m, a race for greyhounds of any grade that have not won a Class One event beyond 700m.

This race, sponsored by Big Dog Petfood's B.A.R.F. meat, will be a very open race with several greyhounds looking to step up in distance at the track.

Box three's She's A Penske is the only greyhound in the field that has placed in a 710m race at Albion Park, coming in third behind Tony Zammit's One Missing on October 20.
