Proceedings brought by the Cairns Greyhound Racing Club to the Racing Appeals Tribunal have been resolved and the proceedings withdrawn. No decision was made by the tribunal after agreement was reached between GQL and the club.
GQL wants to give the Club the opportunity to lift its performance and take maximum advantage from Townsville TAB racing which is due to commence 1 September 2009. The club has indicated that it is confident that Townsville TAB meetings will provide the club with an opportunity to improve its performance.
GQL has agreed to allocate the club a further 9 meetings to the end of June 2010. The increase in race dates will see the club conduct 33 meetings for the financial year. GQL was impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment for the club and in particular it’s President Mrs. Emma O’Connor.
All northern clubs are now required to meet a minimum 70% return in prizemoney of GQL’s allocation (excluding nomination fee amount).
The Club has sort the assistance of GQL to review its performance on a regular basis. GQL is prepared to assist the club where possible. A review will be undertaken of the club’s performance in mid May 2010, which will gauge industry demand for the retention of greyhound racing in Cairns.
GQL encourages the Cairns Committee, owners, trainers, sponsors and the local community in Cairns to continue their support for the Club to ensure greyhound racing in Cairns is viable.
