Fabregal sets the time standard in Bogie Leigh Futurity heats

SOUTH Australian star Fabregal will head into next week's 2 Futurity (520m) at Albion Park as the fastest qualifier following on from her sensational 29.91 heat victory on Thursday night.

Trained by Robyn Mackellar, Fabregal was sent to the boxes as the $1.80 punter's elect in the first heat, with black bitch boasting the imposing record of 13 wins and seven placings from just 20 starts heading into the race.

Stepping brilliantly from box one, the daughter of and Allinga Aye Jay burned off her rivals in the run to the line on the first occasion and never looked in trouble from that point onwards, sprinting clear to score by five and one quarter lengths ahead of NSW sprinter Vidi Vici, with Ironbar Jill filling the trifecta back in third spot.

Having just turned two years of age last month, Fabregal has made quite the impression in her home state, already the winner of seven races at over the 515m trip, with an electrifying personal best of 29.60.

She will head into the Bogie Leigh Futurity final as the greyhound to beat, having drawn box one in the $50,000 to the winner feature.

The second heat saw the -trained Split Image start as the favourite from box three, with the daughter of Where's Pedro and Unfinished aiming to qualify for her second group race of the year, having already won the Group 2 at in February.

Stepping fairly, the brindle bitch got a nice run into the race, slipping into second spot behind Tasmanian sprinter See Blue's Girl (box two) around the first corner.

Working hard down the back, Split Image began cutting back the margin, sticking her head in front on the home turn and looking the winner, however See Blue's Girl had other plans, off the track in the straight and losing concentration, inconveniencing Split Image and arguably costing her the race just metres out from the post.

In the end See Blue's Girl crossed the line half a length in front of Split Image, the winner clocking 30.29. Feisty Fie finished the race off well, running into third spot off box eight for trainer Faye Curry.

The third and final qualifier was far less eventful, with second favourite Dokmai leading all the way from box seven. The NSW visitor began swiftly from box seven, crossing the field with ease in the charge out of the boxes and clearing out to record a four length win.

Race favourite Sheza Size put in a fantastic performance to grab second after being squeezed out at the start from box four. The Peter Ruetschi-trained bitch weaved her way through the field to qualify for the final where she will be aiming to complete the Ipswich Futurity- final.

Australian Racing Greyhound will have the updated odds once available and all the latest information from key players leading up to next Thursday's decider.
