Identity Cards & Microchips Replace Registration Papers In Queensland Greyhounds
Since April 2010 all greyhounds whelped in Queensland have been microchipped and a microchip number assigned to all records in relation to those dogs. However to date microchip identification has not been used as the basis for nominating or racing dogs.
This will now change and all dogs that are to be named, transferred, registered, nominated or raced in Queensland will require microchipping. Stewards will commence test scanning for microchips and advising trainers on the requirements from 1st December 2011.
Racing Queensland will make available microchipping services at major centres in December and if needed in January for a fee of $20. If you wish to attend a Microchipping session you must bring a Naming Application or Racing Certificate for each greyhound.
Once these opportunities are concluded non-microchipped dogs will not be able to be named, transferred, registered, nominated or raced.

Identification Cards To Replace Registration Papers
Plastic identification cards will gradually be introduced as part of the changes to identification procedures for greyhounds being rolled out around Australia. Racing Queensland will continue to conduct the naming process but will now issue a card instead of papers. The card will contain ear brand, microchip number and set of distinguishing features (DF).
Markings will not be shown, as the primary identification will be by microchip number with ear brand and DF as confirmation. A weight card will continue to be used and will now contain any endorsements. ID cards and weight cards (instead of paper registration) will be issued for all new registrations commencing in the first quarter of 2012 at a date to be decided.
