Magical Yessam wins 2016 Group 2 Ipswich Auction series

MAGICAL Yessam has produced a powerful finish to take out the Auction series final (520m) at Ipswich on Saturday night.

Starting from box six, the Donald Massey-trained dog was afforded plenty of room to move early, with Royal Prize (box seven) off the track when the lids opened before cutting back down to the fence and claiming the lead around the first turn.

With clear galloping room, Magical Yessam was able to work his way into second spot, with those two gapping their rivals in the run down the back.

Despite spotting the leader around five lengths at the half way mark, Magical Yessam knuckled down to the task at hand, railing underneath the lamplighter around the home bend, cruising to the front and kicking clear to score by four lengths in a neat 30.55.

Royal Prize was able to cling on for second, with race favourite Vegas Bound (box three) running on strongly to clinch third after finding a stack of trouble throughout the run.

Magical Yessam was undefeated throughout the entire series, winning his heat and semi-final in 31.08 and 30.58 respectively.

Saturday's win took Magical Yessam's career record to 14 wins and nine minor placings from 31 outings, with the hefty $40,000 winner's taking his career earnings above $67,000.

A son of and Kiewa Show, Magical Yessam is the only greyhound Massey currently has in work, with the Moores Pocket trainer breeding, owning and preparing him with his wife Lyn.
