The Ron Ball-trained promising star won on the straight track in a blistering 19.92 on Saturday, after blitzing his heat for the Young Guns on last Thursday night in 30.18.
Mr Metz has drawn box three in Thursday night’s $10,000 final, which will be only his third start on the track, and if he wins will uphold his perfect record in Brisbane.
The GQL Young Guns is an exciting Queensland race series for up and coming starts from the Sunshine State.
Mr Metz first sectional last week was a smoking 5.69 from box five, the equal fastest first section of the night with Pure Surf, who also won his heat in a faster time of 30.10.
However, fastest winner of the night was Mal Dawson’s Gnarley Boy who won in Group-like speed of 29.92 from box six.
Gnarley Boy will be a top contender for this race, however, will have a question mark over him after running sixth on Monday night.
The second fastest qualifier of the night was Tony Brett’s Punk Platinum, who won by over five lengths in a quality 30.04.
His first sectional of 5.79 should have him just off the leaders coming into the first turn which should be to his advantage considering the early speed in the race. Punk Platinum will jump from box five.
In other racing of the night, the Best Eight Garrards 520m (Race Nine) is sure to be hotly contested as the race for the Brisbane Greyhound of the Year comes into its dying weeks.
After a top win on Monday night, Margaret Quarrel’s Premier Chief will be pulling out all stops to try and gain another 10 points which would see him up there in first place.
However, also near the lead is Ron Ball’s Ryan’s A Rocket, who will also get to the lead if he wins on Thursday night.
Consistency would suggest Premier Chief should come out on top in this race, and showed tremendous improvement over the past few weeks with Monday’s win a strong finish.
A big threat for both dogs, however, is Gary Moore’s Black Attack in box four, who will benefit from a vacant inside box.
Black Attack has shown good abilities at Albion Park but has struggled to find consistency. His win last week against top performer Bogie Blue showed this might be his turn around.
Andy Albion’s Best Bets:
- Race 2 Number 2 Santino Marella
- Race 8 Number 5 Punk Platinum
- Race 9 Number 8 Premier Chief
