A RACE named in honour of the 2004 Queensland greyhound of the year, the Group 2 Bogie Leigh Futurity carried a new winner’s purse of $48,475 on Thursday night at Albion Park.
Over Here started as the $2.30 favourite for trainer Peter Ruetschi and was never headed in a dominant win by 5.25 lengths.
Exiting from box six, the daughter of Don’t Knocka Him and Where Are You began brilliantly from out wide and clocked a speedy overall time of 29.99. The 26kg chaser was the fastest qualifier from last week’s heats in a sizzling 29.84 and took her Albion Park record to an impeccable four wins from seven starts.
Pocahontas started at big odds of $25.50 and was gallant in defeat when running second for Patricia Carrington, with rank outsider Abby’s Magic, trained by Bill Elson, finishing half-a-length away in third position.
Over Here’s sensational win in this event was the seventh of her career at start number 12 with her prize money total now sitting at an impressive $65,538.
Second favourite Kingsbrae Lavina unfortunately fell in the home straight, however she picked herself back up and ran into the catching pen.
